Sheet 04 · Pick a structure

Pick a kind of business. Watch a site take shape.

An island in the page, not a gate. Choose, and a page skeleton draws itself in build order with the reasoning pinned to each block.

Restaurant · what the research says Found on a phone, at the moment of deciding where to eat. Four questions get asked before anyone scrolls: open now, where, what is on, can I book.

  1. Open right now? The first question, answered before anything scrolls. Today’s hours live in the header with a plain open or closed, and the phone number is a tap, not a search.
  2. One photograph, and tonight One picture of the room or the plate, not a slideshow. Under it, a strip for tonight: kitchen hours, walk-ins, the special. The site says what a regular would tell a friend.
  3. The menu is a page, not a PDF Dishes and prices as text. Search engines read it, phones search it, and the owner changes a price without calling a designer. The PDF is the reason most restaurant sites rank for nothing.
  4. Where, and where to park The third question in the research. The map, the cross-street, the train, and the parking that is not obvious from the road.
  5. One action per screen Book a table, or order. Whichever the kitchen actually wants more of goes first; the other is a line beneath it. No third button.
  6. Proof, low on the page By here the decision is mostly made, so proof confirms rather than sells: real quotes with names, and the photographs guests take themselves.
  7. The block that feeds Google The full week’s hours and the address, once, as text. Restaurant and Menu structured data are generated from this block, which is what fills the panel beside the search results.
