The numbers, at a glance. Running live.

A dashboard earns its wall space by answering one question from across the room. This one answers: is the network all right, and if not, where? Tap anything in it.

Fig. 24.1 — A clinic's network on one screen: both internet lines, how fast each is answering, and a map of what every device is connected to, from the fiber line down to the lobby TV. Tap a device to trace its path out; tap a kind at the bottom to find all of them. Every so often something breaks, a camera drops or the fiber fails over to the backup line, so you can watch the screen tell you where. The clinic, its devices and readings are invented and generated in your browser.Env demo / sandboxScreen office TV, landscapeClinic fictional

What it watches

  • Two internet lines, with failover
  • Latency and loss, every 2 s
  • Switches, access points, recorder
  • 70-odd devices, by kind

Built for

A screen on the office wall that stays green on a good day and tells the front desk exactly which box to check on a bad one, before a patient notices the Wi-Fi.

B Wall displays

Off-the-shelf screens, software built for one wall.

Smart displays ship with software made for everyone. We replace it with screens made for one household or one business: the gym TV that knows your last set, the kitchen calendar that knows whose practice is at four.

Fig. 24.2 — VolumPRO's gym TV: a 65-inch screen read from ten feet away, mid-set. It follows the workout as sets are logged on the station by the rack: what's next, what you did last time, and whether you're beating it (green beats it, gold is a record). Between sessions it becomes a wall of recent records and the week's volume. Nobody touches it; it only reacts to the data. The people and numbers are invented and generated in your browser.Env demo / sandboxScreen 65″ TV, 1920 × 1080Input none, by design

Fig. 24.3 — A family calendar on a 32-inch kitchen wall display, replacing the software it shipped with: the month at a glance, what's next for each person, a daily timeline under the sun's arc, and the weather, colour-coded by person and synced both ways with everyone's phones. Tap a name to see only theirs; tap Daily or Weather in the dock. Every so often an event syncs in from someone's phone. The household and its events are invented and generated in your browser.Env demo / sandboxScreen 32″ portraitHousehold fictional
